The Living Together Movement

Restore Dialogue Uganda has the promotion of peace in the East African region as one of its primary goals. In partnership with International Center for Ethno Religious Mediation (ICERM), through the Living Together Movement, Restore Dialogue Uganda hopes to build unity and reduce religious and ethnic tensions in the region of East Africa as well as counter issues that arise from these areas such as terrorism and civil conflict.

The Living Together Movement founded by ICERM is an important civic initiative designed to help prevent and resolve ethnic, racial and religious conflicts through dialogue, open-hearted discussions, compassionate & empathic listening, and diversity celebration.

Every month, members of the movement come together to listen to, talk with, learn from, understand and share with one another. Each member enriches the group with a unique story and cultural background. Everyone is given an equal opportunity to talk about his or her cultural background and feelings, or any topics of interest, including but not limited to security issues, politics, policies, war, conflict, conflict resolution, human dignity, forgiveness, foreign relations, world peace, economy, education, employment, family, health, immigration, science and technology.

We practice empathic listening and do not judge or criticize anyone. Our goal is to truly understand the other before seeking to be understood and to focus on what the other person is saying rather than what we are going to say next.

We celebrate our diversity in a symbolic manner with arts, music, food and drinks that our members bring to the Living Together Movement forum.

Each month members of the Movement meet to discuss the peace theme and project for the year and to explore how to promote it and implement it as a chapter or in their individual everyday lives.

Through its members and periodical meetings, the Movement hopes to achieve its goal of promoting peace and building peace loving communities in East Africa.
